Kalavrita, location Velia

The peculiarity of this location is that it is situated in the middle of two big valleys and you can fly, depending on the weather, towards the valleys.
  The take off area is at an altitude of 1550 meters, co-ordinates UTM 43S N x598462- y: 4207462 and you can fly with Southeast, South and Southwest winds, towards the Louson valley and with West, Northwest and North winds, towards the town of Kalavrita, almost every day of the year.

Velia is a 30 minute drive from the town of Kalavrita. You take the same road to the ski resort and you pass the intersection of Kastria. You continue straight ahead for about 1500 meters, then you turn right and you take the dirt road towards the antennas. There are two take off areas there.

This is an advantageous area, one of the best in Greece, for long distance flights to all directions, as the conditions are perfect to gain height. For that reason competitions have been held in the past in Velia.

During the flight one has a beautiful view of the valleys and mountains, Helmo, Kalavrita, some neighbouring villages, Agia Lavra and all the historical sites of the area.

          Long routes have taken place in the past: towards Mt Erimantho, the city of Tripoli, Argos and Mt Ziria.
